Notes

General Note
The Joseph Smith, Sr. family moved to this home on the New Hampshire side of the Connecticut River Valley in 1811. Typhus fever swept through the area during the winter of 1812. Young Joseph Smith, Jr. suffered from the fever and had complications manifested as hematogenous osteomyelitis in his left leg. A painful but miraculous surgery performed by Dr. Nathan Smith saved his leg from amputation. After several years, the Prophet recovered, but he walked with a limp for the rest of his life. The home seen here was torn down in 1967.
